PRE-PLANNING &
INSPECTION GOALS
It is the goal of this department to have basic pre-plans
for all businesses, and more detailed pre-plans of high-risk target hazards. These plans
include location, water supply, utilities, building diagram, exposures, exits, hazards,
etc. Pre-plans are located on various apparatus and at Station 281. It is our goal to have
the fire suppression personnel inspect over 600+ businesses annually. The purpose of these
shift-level inspections is to check for general life safety hazards, such as exits, fire
extinguishers, electrical, occupancy, etc. We also take this opportunity to update
pre-plans, educate, strengthen public relations and familiarize ourselves with building
characteristics.
On a higher level is the Fire Prevention Division which works very closely with the City
Building & Safety and Planning Department. Fire Prevention investigates all telephone
complaints, many of which relate to hazardous dead trees. An important goal of Fire
Prevention is the improvement of older buildings in the community. They also conduct fire
flows of hydrants in the city.
