WATER
SUPPLY

The City of Big Bear Lake Department of Water serves the
City of Big Bear Lake and other areas in Big Bear Valley. The water is supplied from wells
including some slant wells. There are several storage reservoirs located in the higher
elevations of the Valley, with a combined volume of approximately 5,000,000 gallons of
water stored in the City of Big Bear Lake.
The Department of Water has given high priority of replacing old water mains with new and
often larger mains.
They have also replaced and installed new fire hydrants throughout the community of Big
Bear Lake. There are over 800 hydrants in the City. Our goal is to have a hydrant every
300 feet in commercial and multi-family unit areas and every 600 feet in residential
areas. We are getting close to that goal.
