FISHING REPORT:

Big Bear Lake Fishing Report
By Cantrell Guide Service, Big Bear Marina

Date: September 5, 1998

Generally fishing has been slow, but shows signs of picking up this week as fall as started and the sun spends less time out every day. The surface of the lake has gone to the other side now and has started to cool down on the surface. The Dam is now down to 66, Gray’s@ 67,Metcalf @67 and the Observatory to 68. The trout have moved a little east from last week also. The numbers caught this week by the Observatory are up. The trout have been in 30’ plus water with 68-69 degree surface temps and holding around 24’-29’ deep. Trolling or slip bobbers at that depth will catch trout. From Metcalf to the Dam fishing has been slow, but some of my bigger fish were hooked in this area last week. Trolling is work out here at this time of the year,as floating and suspended weeds from the big green machines, cuttings are all over the lake. So be awake out here and watch your lines and check them a lot or you will be going home with many fish, just fish stories.Trolling two lines on Tuesday afternoon at 24’-29'deep 3:00-3:45 I landed 4 trout outside the Observatory. Not bad for how slow it’s been. But remember there are on fences to hold the trout, they do move and so should you ! Troll! Fishing from Metcalf to the Dam has slowed down but some bigger fish have been taken here.Trolling is still the best method of take as you cover more water in less time. Leadline and Needlefish ( Red Dot Frog, Brass Bikini Fire Pearl) 4 to 6 colors have been working..

BIG FISH this week Gary Kalina BBL 3.5 LB Bass Pam last week with 3.4LB and Gary this week. Way to go Cats: John Earickson of Highland 8 pound, 4 ounce kitty which had a “mac- attack” off Stanfield no big trout hit the scales the week
