Hannah, Front Desk Accused by Chamber
of Unfair Trade Practices
BIG BEAR LAKE
-- In a letter to the City
of Big Bear Lake, the Big
Bear Chamber of Commerce has declared opposition to
a request by Mark Hannah in applying for a city license
under the name Tourist Bureau/Chamber of Commerce.
Mark Hannah is
the owner of Front
Desk, a local vacation rental company.
"We request
that this application be rejected. We are a non-profit organization
and a valleywide business advocate and goodwill ambassador
to government agencies, as well as providing an information
center for visitors, business and residents." said
Rick Herrick, past Chamber president. "The Front Desk
and Mr. Hannah are in business for profit."
Attached to the
letter from the Chamber was a list of "54 fictitious
business names which have been established by Mr. Hannah."
Herrick told
The Grizzly,
our local community newspaper, that the Chamber has engaged
an attorney to file a lawsuit charging Mr. Hannah with unfair
practices "that are deceptive to the public" by
using the Chamber's name and purpose.
Herrick also
said that the Chamber has filed a grievance with the California
Public Utilities Commission over Hannah's attempts in
listing his companies under misleading names in the local
GTE telephone book.
"The Chamber
believes these are unlawful unfair trade practices."
